It was launched in 1985 as "The Olympic Programme" and is now called "The Olympic Partner" programme. Before TOP, companies had to make separate deals with each country's National Olympic Committee. TOP let a small group of global companies buy exclusive worldwide Olympic marketing rights in their product category through one agreement with the IOC. The first TOP cycle covered the 1988 Calgary Winter Games and the 1988 Seoul Summer Games. Coca-Cola was one of the founding TOP partners, and the program has funded the Olympic Movement ever since.

Pins like this one, with no sponsor name, just "TOP" over the Olympic rings, honor the program itself. The Seoul, Korea maker's card fits the program's first cycle around the 1988 Seoul Games.

Subject: IOC TOP (The Olympic Partner) programme

Maker: Eden Arts Ind.
