Sam the Eagle Sports Series II ~ 1984 Los Angeles Olympics
Sam the Eagle, the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic mascot designed by Disney artist C. Robert Moore, appeared on many official pin sets licensed by the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee. Series II puts Sam on a star, the same five-pointed star as the LA84 "Stars in Motion" logo, with a different Olympic sport on each pin. The stars come in white, red and blue, and Sam wears his stars and stripes top hat on every one.
The complete Series II set was sold framed, with nearly 40 star pins arranged around a center card carrying the LA84 star logo and the words "Limited Edition Collector's Pins Series II". The framed set is shown as S2 on page 91 of the 1985 Pin Collector's Guide, the pin-set section of the guide, next to the S1 Series I set. The backs are stamped "Series II" along with "Games of the XXIIIrd Olympiad Los Angeles 1984 © 1980 L.A. Oly. Com."
Each pin is sold on its own here, so collectors can fill in the sports they are missing or build the set one star at a time.
