1984 Los Angeles Olympic McDonald's Sponsor Pin ~ Ronald McDonald & Sam the Eagle #2 Domed Enamel
An official 1984 Los Angeles Olympic sponsor pin from McDonald's, showing Sam the Eagle, the official mascot of the 1984 Games, and Ronald McDonald on either side of a domed enamel panel with the McDonald's Golden Arches, the LA84 "Stars in Motion" logo and the Olympic rings.
The story behind this pin: This is the second Ronald McDonald and Sam the Eagle design. In October 1983, the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee (LAOOC) gave McDonald's unprecedented approval for television advertising featuring Ronald and Sam together. At the same time, McDonald's was allowed to redesign its pin, changing the position of both characters' hands. The new design, this pin, became available in January 1984. The 1985 Pin Collector's Guide lists it as McDonald's #131, "Ronald McDonald/Sam #2," with about 35,000 made.
