What is TOP?

TOP is the International Olympic Committee's worldwide sponsorship program. It was launched in 1985 as "The Olympic Programme" and is now called "The Olympic Partner" programme. Before TOP, companies had to make separate deals with each country's National Olympic Committee. TOP let a small group of global companies buy exclusive worldwide Olympic marketing rights in their product category through one agreement with the IOC. The first TOP cycle covered the 1988 Calgary Winter Games and the 1988 Seoul Summer Games. Coca-Cola was one of the founding TOP partners, and the program has funded the Olympic Movement ever since.
